People Coordinator - Political Action (Western)
This position will be filled at the grade commensurate with the knowledge and experience of the selected applicant. Provide professional and managerial coordination in furthering the following goals of the fundraising arm of the Union's political action, grassroots lobbying and fundraising program – PEOPLE (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality).
DUTIES: Establishes PEOPLE Committees at the statewide, council and local levels which provide structure for political action, grassroots lobbying and fundraising. Develops, promotes, expands and meets the fundraising goals of the PEOPLE program. May present testimony before various governmental officials and governmental bodies concerning the establishment of PEOPLE payroll deduction and responds to inquiries regarding its implementation. Coordinates activities with the department to promote the 21st Century Committee goals for the PEOPLE program more fully throughout the union. Monitors and maintains files on political and legislative issues that may have an impact on the PEOPLE program, with special emphasis on campaign finance reform initiatives and laws. Meets with affiliate leaders to advise and coordinate the Union's national effort to conduct fundraising drives and events. Prepares or assists in the preparation of budgets for PEOPLE fundraising campaigns. Advises on strategies, monitors and reports progress on such campaigns. May give speeches, workshops and seminars to affiliate gatherings and assists in the development of such collateral materials as brochures, workbooks, and instruction manuals. Demonstrates to affiliates how to establish and structure PEOPLE committees. Identifies and formulates new ideas and strategies for the national PEOPLE program. Contributes newsworthy items to the weekly eye opener report which highlights PEOPLE program activities at the national and local affiliate levels. Prepares or assists in the preparation of various reports and analyses as required. May be assigned to work in political and legislative campaigns as necessary
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; and course work in labor relations, political science or government; and three to ten years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the following knowledge, skills and abilities: knowledge of unions and their political and fundraising activities; knowledge of the political and legislative process; knowledge of federal election and campaign laws; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to effectively work with union members and elected leadership both inside and outside the Union; and ability to assist in developing, managing and organizing grassroots programs. Extended work hours and travel are required.
