Staff Representative, AFSCME Council 8 - Ohio
Labor union representing public sector, private non-profit, and health care employees seeks qualified and experienced individual for staff representative position in the Dayton area. DUTIES: Essential duties and responsibilities include activities that mobilize, organize, represent and educate local union affiliates, local union leadership, and local union membership and build the union. Must be able to conduct collective bargaining using various methods including traditional, interest based, and modified traditional; present grievances; represent workers in administrative hearings and before civil service commissions and legislative bodies; present arbitration cases; engage in grievance mediation, fact-finding, and conciliation. Public speaking skills, good writing skills, and effective interpersonal communication skills are essential. REQUIREMENTS: Must be knowledgeable of Chapter 4117 of the Ohio Revised Code and the administrative rules and regulations related to it. Must be knowledgeable of National Labor Relations Act provisions as they pertain to organizing activity. Must be knowledgeable of provisions of the Ohio Revised Code and the administrative rules and regulations related the State Personnel Board of Review. Must be knowledgeable of the rules governing arbitration and other administrative proceedings. Must have a reliable vehicle, vehicle insurance and valid driver's license. Must reside in the State of Ohio. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
