We are seeking an exceptional candidate with the capacity to take the work of a healthy and growing organization to the next level of effectiveness.

 

DUTIES: Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ED has principal responsibility for overseeing, interpreting and implementing organizational policy, and ensuring the overall success and effectiveness of the organization. Key responsibilities include:
Program and Campaign Development and Management: Oversees organizational strategy; drives implementation; leads program & campaign planning with the Board and staff; supports and guides staff in program work.
• Organizational Relationships: Serves as an effective spokesperson for the agency with other institutions and the general public; advances AFSCME’s reputation and position in the fields in which it works.
• Staff Development: Attracts, retains and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people; trains, supports, and supervises staff; divides and assigns work effectively.
• Board of Directors: Recruits, retains and supports a diverse and skilled Board of Directors; involves the Board in governance and support of the organization.
• Administration: Maintains the organizational, operational, legal and financial health and effectiveness of the organization. Works closely with Executive Assistant on administration.

REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate should have the following Qualifications: We are seeking an exceptional candidate with the capacity to successfully lead a large, complex organization that is advancing multiple campaigns and programs.
• Ability to thrive in a highly creative team environment;
• Ability to work creatively and strategically with union officers and staff to develop and implement a union field program;
• Minimum 10 years experience! Including Significant experience with campaign leadership, program management, and staff development.
• Experience in organizational development;
• Significant knowledge and experience of organized labor; commitment to building a diverse and inclusive labor movement and partnering with community groups
• Experience in Labor relations;
• Experience building a functioning team of staff;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong skills in motivating and managing staff;
• Self-motivation and direction;
• Excellent personal organization and time management skills; capacity to manage multiple priorities; and accountability to goals.
• Comfort with independent decision-making within the context of the organization's mandate;
• Experience developing and working with budgets.

Requirements:
• Strong background in organizing (unions, political, grassroots, or non-profit associations);
• Familiarity working with union officers and member-based committees;
• Experience bargaining or administering collective bargaining agreements;
• Experience managing staff;
• College degree desired;
• Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as needed;
• Some travel is required;

Salary: (depending on experience) and staff car, benefits package.
