The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Colorado Council 76, AFL-CIO is currently seeking an Executive Director.  The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Council 76 Executive Board.  The Executive Director is responsible for implementing the policies of the Council’s executive board in accordance with the mission and responsibilities of the Council to represent and promote the welfare of its members.  The Executive Director sits on the Executive Board, with voice but no vote.  The Executive Director serves as the Council’s administrative and executive officer.

DUTIES: This executive position provides leadership, direction and administrative oversight for the day-to-day operations of the Council which includes but are not limited to:  policy development, personnel management, strategic planning, budget development, contract negotiations, public relations, political/legislative and member education programs.  This position is highly visible and requires extensive contact with the members, other labor organizations, coalition partners, the media, and federal, state and municipal elected officials.  The Executive Director is required to devote full time to the position and works a non-standard work week including evenings and weekends when required.  This position requires frequent travel within the state and some limited travel outside the state.

REQUIREMENTS: • A minimum of 3 years of union management, preferably in the public sector that includes substantial experience in labor relations, contract negotiations, organizing, administration, and staff management.
• Demonstrated skill in strategic, operational and budget planning is also required.
• Must exhibit high level of competence related to persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in commonly used computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications.
• Develop campaign strategies, timelines and calendars.
• Hire, train, support, and oversee professional and clerical staff.
