There is nothing more important than staying safe on the job. Our lives depend on it. That is why, as an AFSCME member, we have access to some of the best workplace health and safety resources available. Training programs and technical assistance emphasize strategies that involve workers and staff in identifying and solving workplace problems. AFSCME has also played a leading role in winning job safety rights to protect workers from asbestos, infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and other hazards.

Swine Flu Nationwide Public Health Emergency In response to the increasing number of confirmed cases of swine flu in the United States, HHS has determined that a public health emergency exists. This declaration will have the effect of the government beginning to prepare to mobilize and activating its stockpile of antiviral drugs for quick delivery to the states in the event they're needed. National Action Summit for Latino Worker Health and Safety The Summit will develop a working agenda to prevent injury and death among Latino workers. It will showcase innovative partnerships, demonstrate successful education and training strategies, and develop effective enforcement and communication strategies.
