2009 AFSCME Legislative Conference Announcement

Dramatic change has come to Washington, DC and the nation with the historic election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. The Obama administration has already begun to deliver on that change with the enactment of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a plan to create jobs and give aid to state and local governments.

The new Congress, with bipartisan support from some important but limited quarters of the Republican Party, was able to swiftly approve a major stimulus bill that begins to respond to our economic crisis within weeks of President Obama’s swearing in.  This is just the beginning of the change we need in this country. Much more needs to be done, and we need your help to accomplish truly meaningful and lasting reform.

At the 2009 AFSCME Legislative Conference, you will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from national leaders about the issues important to AFSCME members, particularly the economic crisis, health care reform and the Employee Free Choice Act. You will also be able to participate in discussions about these and other issues with fellow AFSCME leaders and activists.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to become involved in the process of lobbying your federal lawmakers for a real change as we go to Capitol Hill for our lobbying day.

Registration will begin Monday, May 11, 2009, 12noon to 5:00pm, and again Tuesday morning at 7:30am to 4:00pm. The conference will open Tuesday morning and will adjourn on Thursday afternoon.
