Nadra Floyd Memorial Scholarship2007 Nadra Floyd Scholarship Winners: Ms. Aminta Bailey-Haynes from Local 1924, Council 30 (VA) and Ms. Shannye Carroll from Local 2380, Council 67 (MD). ![]() A dedicated trade unionist committed to her union, her family and the civil rights movement passed away in November 2001. To honor her memory, the Nadra Floyd Memorial Scholarship was established and continues today as a tribute to her legacy of commitment to the labor movement. Nadra was a rank-and-file activist and a staff member before being named Executive Director of AFSCME Council 10, which represented University of California employees. In 1995, Nadra left the Bay Area to accept a position in Washington, D.C. As an International Union Assistant Area Director she had managing responsibilities for AFSCME’s Maryland state employees organizing project. In 1997, she became the Director of Community Service and Community Action for the AFL-CIO, and later the AFL-CIO’s Deputy Organizing Director. In August 2000, Nadra moved to Albany, N.Y., to become the Organizing Director for the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA)/AFSCME Local 1000. Nadra Floyd brought vision, leadership and a team-building spirit to every position that she held. The Nadra Floyd Memorial ScholarshipThe four scholarships offered are open to all AFSCME members and/or staff who want to increase their leadership skills to assist in the further development of the labor movement by obtaining a degree at the National Labor College. Scholarship winners will be selected by a panel of National Labor College Degree Program officials based upon:
