The Model Local Union

  1. All officer and executive board positions are filled — the group functions as a cohesive, unified team.
  2. Officers and members honor the constitution by following its structure and intent.
  3. The local engages in annual strategic planning to determine goals and crafts an action plan to achieve those goals.
  4. The local has an annual operating budget that reflects the plan’s priorities.
  5. Committee structure is in place to meet ongoing needs, including political action and internal organizing.
  6. Steward system is in place covering all work locations and shifts.
  7. Communication is ongoing.It includes:
    1. Greeting new workers and asking them to join the union and PEOPLE
    2. Publishing a regular newsletter
    3. Holding regular meetings
    4. Creating a one-on-one communication network (Member Action Team) capable of reaching every represented worker.
    5. Foundation or end result is to have an active and engaged membership.
