Making a Difference with PEOPLEDo you wince when you hear "I don't want anything to do with politics!" Or worse, "I don't vote!" from another nurse or co-worker? But you, as an AFSCME and United Nurses of America member, know our voices and our votes do indeed count — that nurses can make a difference. Politics shapes our jobs whether in a hospital, a skilled-nursing facility or a public school. From staffing ratios to mandatory overtime to cuts in federal spending in Medicaid, nutrition and family services, policies enacted at the state and federal level affect nursing practices and patient care. By participating in PEOPLE — our union's political, legislative and fundraising arm, we can directly influence the decision-makers who pass laws and make policies affecting what happens on the job. AFSCME and United Nurses of America are leading the fight to advance quality health care. But we need your help. Here's what you can do:
For information about PEOPLE and how you can help, contact AFSCME PEOPLE at 202-429-1021 or email. You and the 60,000 UNA-AFSCME nurses can make a difference! |
