Nursing Is a Hazardous Occupation

According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data by occupation for 2002 (the most recent information available), nurses ranked 12th in terms of injuries involving days away from work.

For back injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders, nurses had the sixth-highest number among all occupations. Nurses missed a median number of six days from work for these types of injuries.

Nursing aides, orderlies and attendants had the highest number of musculoskeletal disorders of any occupation and were second only to truck drivers in the number of total injuries. For more information, visit the Bureau of Labor Statistics web site.
