Mobilizing the Nation

Americans United to Protect Social Security (AUPSS) is a national coalition of over 200 organizations that is mobilizing the country to preserve the most successful domestic program in our nation's history. AFSCME founded the coalition earlier this year and continues to be a leading supporter.

AUPSS has been waging an aggressive grassroots and media campaign to show Congress that Americans don't want to destroy Social Security with private accounts. State coalitions have been formed in over 30 states, where the message is carried via rallies, news conferences and other types of demonstrations.

"This campaign is one of the most exciting we've ever been involved with," said AFSCME Pres. Gerald W. McEntee. "Americans of all ages are coming together to defend this great system. After all, Social Security is something almost all of us share — it's as much a part of who we are as the flag and apple pie."
