New Medicaid Eligibility Rules

The Deficit Reduction Act requires all U.S. citizen Medicaid applicants and recipients to prove U.S. citizenship and identity.  HHS regulations to implement this provision will burden AFSCME Medicaid eligibility workers who have to collect this additional information and help clients get the proper documents for application and recertification.  This requirement will increase the workload of eligibility caseworkers, many of whom already carry huge caseloads.   August 2006.  See AFSCME’s comments on the new rules.
