This position coordinates programs with state and national tables, as well as allies and affiliates. Develops, implements and evaluates political campaigns, including federal, state and local elections. Makes recommendations and provides strategic guidance for AFSCME involvement in said campaigns. 

 DUTIES:  

  • Develops and tracks campaign budgets and works with campaign finance and compliance staff to ensure proper reporting and resource allocation. 
  • Represents Department at various forums and functions. 
  • Utilizes advanced targeting, data and research to enhance field, communications, PEOPLE and voter contact programs. 
  • Develops and nurtures relationships with community partners and allies at the federal, state and local level to advance the Department and AFSCME’s agenda. 
  • Researches electoral and campaign operations, including field and GOTV programs. 
  • Provides written reports on electoral and union developments and work with other staff to do the same. 
  • May perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:   

Education and Experience 

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in political science or any other related field. A minimum of ten (10) years of related experience with demonstrated competency in management of programs and previous supervision of staff or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skills 

  • Thorough knowledge of electoral campaigns, including media, field, voter contact, polling, research and communications operations. 
  • Ability to draft and execute political, media and field plans and budgets. Ability to analyze and comprehend polls, including crosstabs. 
  • Ability to recruit, train and supervise staff. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationship with council and local affiliate leaders, staff and activists as well as coalition partners and political operatives. 
  • Advanced understanding of data and targeting, including micro-targeting, NCEC and demographic targeting. 
  • Advanced understanding of AFSCME operations at the national, state and local level. 
  • Effective skills in public speaking and training, and written communication skills. Knowledge of campaign databases and voter files. 
  • Ability to monitor campaign developments and make recommendations based on those developments.
