INTRODUCTION

Association of Classified Employees-American Federation of State, County, Municipal Employee (Ace-AFSCME) Local 2250, American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is one of AFSCME’s largest education support personnel locals, representing over 6,000 members in Prince George’s County. The local also has an affiliate relationship with the MSEA, and NEA, which provides members with legal services, professional development opportunities, and legislative advocacy surrounding education issues. POSITION OVERVIEW

Ace-AFSCME LOCAL, AFL-CIO 2250 seeks a passionate Executive Director to lead a member driven organization that advocates for affordable healthcare, job security, fair wages and improved working conditions of over 6,000 Educational Support Professionals of Prince George's County Public Schools.

 The Executive Director promotes and furthers the Ace-AFSCME Local 2250, AFL-CIO mission and values, protects the best interests of the organization, strategically positions the organization for the future, represents the organization publicly, facilitates a culture of transparency and communication throughout the organization, and provides a united approach to general oversight of all staff. The Executive Director shall serve at the direction of the Executive Board.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational Management

  • Make major administrative decisions for the union.
  • Work in partnership with the President (i.e., planning and organizing governance meetings of the union).
  • Serve as advisor to the Executive Board and its committees.
  • Assist the Executive Board with policy development, and roles & responsibilities.
  • Keep abreast of professional and educational trends.
  • Foster good working relationships with elected officials, the local AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, MSEA/NEA, other unions and community groups.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Executive Board and membership meetings.

Staff Management

  • Serve as chief of staff.
  • Provide a collaborative work environment where the union’s policy, goals and objectives are at the forefront.
  • Implement the policies established by the Executive Board and the membership on a day to day basis.
  • Assign staff resources to programs and projects as deemed necessary.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of education and training for the staff, leadership, and activists.
  • Provide supervision, direction and evaluation of the work of staff members, delegating responsibilities as appropriate to other management personnel.

Corporate Management

  • Establish and maintain a fiscal budget with regulatory accountability to the Executive Board
  • Oversee compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university required, advanced degree preferred at least 5 years of experience managing people including at least 3 years in a leadership role in, social justice, advocacy or political environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, effective communications, listening, writing, and conflict resolution skills are required.
  • Ability to advise and report to the elected Executive Board.
  • Experience in managing issue-based, policy-advocacy, or electoral campaigns incorporating grassroots organizing and creative communications strategies; and supervising full-time advocates/activists showing the ability to inspire and motivate teams to work with a clear direction and purpose.
  • Experience managing budgets, supervising/leading teams, and fulfilling multiple priorities and projects effectively within budget and time guidelines.
  • Demonstrates computer proficiency including database management.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and weekends.
  • Ability to travel across the state.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS PACKAGE

Salary range is from $110,000 to $120,000 and commensurate with experience. We provide an excellent benefits package to include, health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plan, car allowance and paid time off.
