This position is responsible for managing, planning and conducting advanced financial audits and administrative reviews of affiliates, including the prompt issuance of reports indicating findings and recommendations. Additionally, this position is responsible for oversight of large multi-person, complex audits for medium to large affiliates.
DUTIES:
- Manages audit teams and the preparation of technical summary audit reports outlining findings, recommendations, and financial statements of schedules as appropriate.
- Coordinates the processing of surety bonding claims on behalf of affiliates that have experienced covered losses from initial notice until the claim is closed.
- Evaluates calculations of surety bond coverage levels required for all affiliates and coordinates billing and collection with the Accounting Department.
- Assigns and monitors desk audits of annual financial reports and surety bond reports submitted by affiliates to the International. May identify affiliates that require the intervention of department manager.
- Develops and assists with training courses to instruct affiliate secretary-treasurers how to set up, maintain and monitor financial records and systems in accordance with the International Constitution, the Financial Standards Code, and government regulations. Conducts advanced financial workshops.
- Responds to questions from affiliates regarding tax matters and financial reporting requirements.
- Responds to Financial Services office referrals from the Executive Officers on accounting/audit related matters.
- Appears as witness in Judicial Panel, arbitration, and court proceedings when testimony on audit or other financial assignment so requires.
- Reviews updates of contents and language of reports and notices to affiliates to maintain compliance with government regulations and the International's guidelines.
- Evaluates and recommends accounting and business administration software that impacts on administrative system solutions.
- Assists in designing, developing and implementing computerized systems.
- Develops audit program checklists and scope of planning documents.
- Reviews reports and other audit data of other audit staff for completeness and compliance with departmental standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in accounting or finance.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an auditing or accounting environment performing a variety of tasks, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of forensic auditing and accounting practices and principles, and appropriate reporting requirements of financial statements.
- Thorough knowledge of appropriate reporting requirements for financial statements.
- Thorough knowledge of business and financial systems software and computer applications.
- Ability to collect, analyze and compare financial data and identify data anomalies.
- Ability to recommend and develop financial application software and spreadsheets.
- Ability to make logical, reliable, and sound financial conclusions and to make appropriate auditing judgements.
- Ability to manage, develops, plan, and organize the execution of financial audits.
- Ability to conduct financial training and develop curriculum.
- Ability to lead a team of auditors in the execution of large, complex audits.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and associated business and financial software.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite with a concentration in Excel.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Extended Hours and Travel:
- Extensive travel and extended work hours are required.
