This position provides advanced-level clerical, administrative support and related work as required to the Political Action Department, particularly the political finance/compliance team under the direction of the Political Finance and Compliance Manager.

Duties:

  • Maintain, update, manipulate, and process transactions and records for contributions and expenditures in AFSCME’s disbursement databases.
  • Assists with maintaining, tracking, and disbursing the political programs and/or PEOPLE PAC budget.
  • Coordinate with staff to prepare contribution letters/memos and transmission of disbursements.
  • Assist with campaign finance and lobbying research for information on compliance rules, campaign finance/lobbyist reports and filing deadlines. This includes researching FEC, Secretary of States, State Ethics, and other relevant websites and upkeep of records and data.
  • Responsible for obtaining Political Director, Executive Office, and accounting approvals of all disbursements working in collaboration with the Executive Office and Accounting Department to move approved disbursements to transmission.
  • Assist with compiling, preparing, maintaining, and submitting campaign finance/lobbyist reports.
  • Assist with calculating and tracking staff costs for field deployments and other special projects.
  • Maintain AFSCME documents, backup, Excel and database records related to the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention.
  • Responsible for mailing letters to members that are elected delegate/alternate, or committee members.
  • Prepares necessary paperwork for processing and transmitting reimbursements to members for approved expenses.
  • Maintain AFSCME Independent Expenditure campaign records and generate necessary reports.
  • Create and maintain detailed budget/expenditure reports and schedules.
  • Prepare and review non-standard letters, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Assist with daily routine requests and long-term special projects.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree, with a concentration in accounting desired and a minimum of five (5) years of office experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Skills Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the political and legislative processes.
  • Knowledge of campaign compliance and reporting processes.
  • Excellent oral, writing, and attention to detail skills.
  • Strong data-entry, database management and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while working with minimal supervision; manage time effectively to meet deadlines and be self-motivated to learn and take on new tasks and responsibilities.
  • A high degree of organizational skills, time management, accuracy, attention to detail and workflow output.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers, management, and others external to AFSCME.
  • Strong ability to proofread documents and compose correspondence.
  • Advanced knowledge of the MS Office Suite – Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Travel & Work hours 

  • Travel and overtime may be required.
