Delphine Steiner

Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Licensed Practical Nurse Delphine Steiner has devoted her life to serving the public at work, in her community and through her union. She’s spent decades caring for some of Minnesota’s most vulnerable residents at state-run mental health facilities. Steiner has been a staunch advocate for workers’ rights since her first day on the job. To help build our movement, she mentors young leaders and educates our co-workers, families and neighbors about the union advantage. Her values-driven leadership has been key to growing her local union and building solidarity throughout AFSCME Council 5.

Steiner has served as president of AFSCME Local 735 in Fergus Falls, Minn., for more than 20 years. She also serves as president of Council 5’s Human Services Policy Committee, and as a member of the Council 5 Executive Board and Finance Committee.

In her role as an LPN, Steiner is proud to carry on a family legacy: her mother and grandmother both worked at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center. Several of her family members are currently her co-workers at the Fergus Falls Community Behavioral Health Hospital, and even more of them are fellow AFSCME members.

Steiner credits her faith, family and union values for sustaining her and giving her strength. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to country music and spending time with her family – including her husband Dean, whom she met more than 20 years ago through her AFSCME activism.
