Electronic Media in Education Programs

WHEREAS:

The education of members and staff remains essential for AFSCME s continued success and effectiveness; and

WHEREAS:

The demands of work, home and community limit the time and resources of AFSCME's members and staff; and

WHEREAS:

State-of-the-art technology in electronics, television, computers, and other forms of modern equipment has enabled educators in all fields to make expanded use of limited time and resources, and improve the quality of education given through these media; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME continues its commitment to excellence in the development of informative and effective education programs to assist our members and staff to be the most knowledgeable, personally qualified and forward-looking trade unionists in the labor movement; and

WHEREAS:

The education programs prepared and presented by the International Education Department have enabled thousands of members and staff to receive valuable and effective training by means of specialized video recordings, teleconferencing, computerized program design, cable telecasting and other progressive methods.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union ensure the continuation of high quality education programs for members and staff by sustaining the development of modern practical methods, using contemporary technology to achieve this goal; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the International Union Education Department continue to seek more cost-effective and time-effective high technology and other contemporary means to help educate and train members and staff; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That councils and locals be encouraged to use the technical developments made by the International Union to meet the educational needs of their members and staff quickly and effectively.
