Organizing School Employees

WHEREAS:

Over 150,000 school employees, including librarians, maintenance workers, food service workers, clerical employees, bus drivers, crossing guards and grounds keepers, enjoy the rights and privileges of membership in AFSCME; and

WHEREAS:

The 25,000 members of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees affiliated with AFSCME on February 11, 1984 bringing AFSCME membership in Ohio to 75,000 and making AFSCME the second largest AFL-CIO union in Ohio; and

WHEREAS:

Both AFSCME and OAPSE, Local 4 are uniquely qualified to organize school employees and protect the rights and interests of school employees; and

WHEREAS:

OAPSE, Local 4 desires to share its expertise and resources with the international Union in an effort to organize school employees across the country; and

WHEREAS:

The AFSCME School Employees Advisory Committee provides the international Union with an invaluable resource and pool of expertise on issues of importance to school employees.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to expand its efforts to organize school employees and to provide school employees with experienced effective representation.
