WHEREAS:
The School Lunch Programs have been cut by $1.5 billion since 1981; and
WHEREAS:
Three million children have been dropped out of the school lunch programs since 1981; and
WHEREAS:
Most of these children come from families of working poor and would have been eligible for free and reduced price meals; and
WHEREAS:
President Reagan's Fiscal Year 1985 budget calls for more severe cuts and will seriously jeopardize the integrity and effectiveness of these programs.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME continue its support for full funding of these programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME oppose any attempt to place the lunch and breakfast programs in a block grant.
