Training Programs for AFSCME Rank-and-file

WHEREAS:

The foundation of a strong union — be it at the local, council or International level — is an active, concerned, knowledgeable, informed membership; and

WHEREAS:

Local union rank-and-filers who know their rights, know and are able to use their contracts, and are educated on issues affecting the membership, are best able to keep the union democratic and strong; and

WHEREAS:

An active and participating rank-and-file is best able to take up the fight for member interests and for dignity for all on the job; and

WHEREAS:

A rank-and-file that is knowledgeable about the union structure and how the union functions will be able to more effectively promote member interests, both to management and relevant political bodies.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to develop and provide intensive training programs and new materials for AFSCME rank-and-filers, and to encourage members to be active and meet their responsibilities as a vital part of the union team.
