Organizing School Employees

WHEREAS:

Over 150,000 school employees, including educational aides, maintenance workers, custodians, food service workers, clerical employees, library employees, school crossing guards, and bus drivers already enjoy the privileges and benefits of AFSCME membership; and

WHEREAS:

The Reagan Administration has reduced federal funding of education programs thus threatening the jobs of AFSCME members performed in educational facilities across the country; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME and its school employee affiliates are uniquely qualified and experienced to organize, represent, and protect the rights and interests of school employees; and

WHEREAS:

The AFSCME School Employees Advisory Committee provides the International Union with an invaluable resource and pool of expertise on issues of importance to school employees.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to provide school employees with effective experienced representation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That the International Union continue to expand its program to organize school employees and involve AFSCME activists in its efforts.
