WHEREAS:

The continuance of a free democratic society is dependent upon an educated citizenry; and

WHEREAS:

The economic health and future of the United States are dependent upon an educated and trained workforce; and

WHEREAS:

The number of children and their parents who are economically, socially, and educationally disadvantaged is increasing with near geometric proportions; and

WHEREAS:

The cost of receiving an education at all levels is rising at an alarming rate.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME councils and locals strive to promote free universal education from preschool through post-graduate work for all who can benefit from such experiences.
