WHEREAS:
The 1979 White House Conference on Library and Information Services resulted in successful citizen involvement in promoting and supporting libraries, and served as a focal point for planning library and information services for the succeeding decade; and
WHEREAS:
There is an urgent need now to consider future directions for library and information services; and
WHEREAS:
Legislation, H.J. Res. 90, to authorize a second white House Conference on Library and Information Services has been passed by Congress and is pending in House-Senate Conference.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME express its support for H.J. Res. 90, authorizing a second White House Conference on Library and Information Services, and urge and House Education and Labor Committee and the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee to complete action on H.J. Res. 90.
