Election Day Voting Holiday

WHEREAS:

Many countries set aside election day as a holiday for voting; and

WHEREAS:

In establishing such election day holidays, these countries demonstrate public respect for the duty of voting while at the same time remove serious obstacles that prevent citizens from voting.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME supports state and federal legislation establishing general election day as a voting holiday.
