Universal School Feeding

WHEREAS:

            The National School Lunch Program has been a proven success and feeds twenty six million school children a day; and

WHEREAS:

            Over fifty percent of all school children who eat school meals come from families in the poverty area without full access to these meals; and

WHEREAS:

            Millions of other school children still do not have full access to such child nutrition programs; and

WHEREAS:

            One of the proven benefits of this program is the positive relationship between the nutritious child feeding programs and improved classroom performance.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

            The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees hereby fully supports the concept and legislative initiative known as Universal School Feeding, which would provide a nutritious free breakfast and lunch to all elementary and secondary school children in the United States.
