Election Day Voting Holiday

WHEREAS:

            Many countries set aside election days as holidays for voting; and

WHEREAS:

            Election day holidays demonstrate public respect for the duty of voting and at the same time remove obstacles that prevent citizens from voting.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

            That AFSCME supports state and federal legislation establishing general election day as a voting holiday.
