WHEREAS:

            AFSCME has long supported consumer education programs; and

WHEREAS:

            AFSCME is represented on the boards and supports the National Consumers League and the Consumer Federation of America; and

WHEREAS:

            Consumer education is a vital component of daily life for all our members, and an area that is ever expanding in content and importance; and

WHEREAS:

            The International Union wants its members to be knowledgeable about their consumer rights, such as telemarketing, financial responsibilities, and fraud.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

            That AFSCME members aggressively continue to build relationships with local affiliates of the National Consumer League and the Consumer Federation of America; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

            That AFSCME members regularly be made aware of their consumer rights through contacts with other influential community organizations concerned with consumer interests; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

            That the International Union continue to provide access to consumer education and information on consumer rights for all AFSCME members.
