Disability Process Redesign

WHEREAS:

            The Social Security Administration has initiated a Disability Reingineering Proposal; and

WHEREAS:

            This proposal, if implemented, could result in the loss of jobs at the state level, either through federalization or abolishment; and

WHEREAS:

            In Pennsylvania, AFSCME has been working with state officials for the past year to redesign and make the Disability Determination process more efficient; and

WHEREAS:

            This effort will improve service to the disabled clients without costing jobs.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

            That AFSCME go on record opposing any effort by the Social Security Administration that will negatively affect state employees; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

            That AFSCME continue working with state government to improve the efficiency of the operations to better serve our clientele without harming the employees who provide the service.
