WHEREAS:
The privatization of the public hospitals is the initial phase of a long term plan to terminate the operations of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation altogether and thereby concentrate all hospitals in the hands of non-public and private institutions; and
WHEREAS:
If the privatization plan is successful, the system of providing health care to the neediest and sickest of the citizens of New York City will be turned over to the private sector, thereby reducing and/or eliminating services to the poor; and
WHEREAS:
The privatization campaign will adversely affect the jobs of thousands of our members.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That this convention go on record to fight all attempts at privatization which will lower the wage levels, and eliminate the jobs of our members; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That this convention will make all efforts to fight the privatization of health care facilities and all other municipal services; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
That AFSCME will mobilize all of its resources, including political, financial and trade union resources in the battle against the privatization of public hospitals and all other municipal services.
