WHEREAS:

The right to participate in the political process by public employees, minorities and women has not always been available; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME members in particular are directly affected by initiatives, laws, and budgets passed at all levels of government; and

WHEREAS:

AFSCME members, more so than other unions’ members, have the opportunity to directly affect their conditions of employment through the political process, including the right to bargain collectively; and

WHEREAS:

The right to vote and participate in the political process should never be taken for granted.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME International and affiliates should make every effort to ensure that these rights are not taken for granted; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME educate its members and their families about the political process and the rights afforded them; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

That AFSCME work to energize its members and their families in the political process; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:

That AFSCME make every effort to better educate its members and their families about the issues that affect them as union members.
