WHEREAS:
Workers organize labor unions to secure better wages, benefits and job rights; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME affiliates throughout the country have negotiated contracts that provide far better wages, benefits and job rights than are provided to unorganized workers; and
WHEREAS:
Management attempts to undermine the incentive for workers to organize by creating tremendous roadblocks to achieving a first contract, or seeking to negotiate contracts that are far inferior to those covering already-organized workers.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME rejects this union-busting strategy by management; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME International and its affiliates provide assistance to help newly-organized bargaining units achieve contracts that maintain union wage and benefit levels and that provide effective job rights.
