WHEREAS:
Public and academic library services are important to our democracy and our public educational system; and
WHEREAS:
Public and academic libraries across the country are being severely cut on the local, state and federal levels; and
WHEREAS:
There is a severe retention and recruitment problem of librarians and all library workers because of low salaries.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME lobby for increased funding to all public and academic libraries on the local, state and federal level to prevent layoffs and reductions in library service to all ages.
