WHEREAS:
All members of AFSCME are workers who receive pay for their labor; and
WHEREAS:
The right to withhold their labor is the ultimate weapon workers have. As a practical matter, however, all public employees will not achieve the right to strike. Where the right to strike is not achievable, workers should have access to other meaningful dispute resolution mechanisms, such as binding arbitration.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME advocate that public employees bargaining laws in the United States provide for either the right to strike or another meaningful dispute resolution mechanism, such as binding arbitration, or both; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME encourage and logistically support its affiliates to similarly advocate and campaign for such laws.
