Raising Contribution Limits for Political Action Committees

Resolution No. 38
36th International Convention
June 21 - 25, 2004
Anaheim, CA

WHEREAS:

The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) doubled individual limits on contributions to federal candidates from $1000 to $2000 per election and indexed these contributions to inflation; and

WHEREAS:

Limits on contributions to federal candidates, other committees and state parties by Political Action Committees have not been increased from the current $5,000 per election since they were established, nor are they indexed for inflation; and

WHEREAS:

Limits on contributions to national parties by Political Action Committees have not been increased from the current $15,000 per election since they were established, nor have they been indexed for inflation.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME supports increasing the contribution limits for Political Action Committees from their current levels to $25,000 per cycle for federal candidates and $50,000 per cycle for national party committees, as well as indexing them for inflation, as BCRA did for individual contributions.
