WHEREAS:
Emergency medical service personnel, including but not limited to emergency medical technicians, paramedics, flight nurses and flight medics, risk their lives to preserve the lives of others; and
WHEREAS:
Each year dozens of emergency medical service personnel die in the line of duty while responding to, operating at and returning from the scene of emergencies; and
WHEREAS:
No permanent memorial recognizing the supreme sacrifice made by these men and women currently exists in this nation; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME locals representing emergency medical service personnel, in cooperation with other EMS representatives throughout the country, have undertaken the task of establishing a permanent memorial to honor these fallen heroes in our nation’s capital.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), its councils and locals do hereby endorse the construction of the National Emergency Medical Service Memorial in Washington, D.C.
