WHEREAS:
AFSCME Local 375, the Civil Service Technical Guild, was organized on February 7, 1937. “The Guild” was established in the offices of Frank J. Prial, the editor of the Chief Leader, New York City’s civil service newspaper; and
WHEREAS:
From the year 1937, “The Guild,” which started out with only about 10 members, has grown over the years to over 6,500 plus members, representing engineers, architects, scientists, construction managers, associate project managers, criminalists, planners, landmark preservationists and over 120 other technical civil service titles; and
WHEREAS:
Under the leadership of our Local’s 9 past presidents; Hank Cunningham (1937-1938), Philip Brueck (1938-1956), Alexander Lurkis (1956-1958), Joseph E. Collins (1958-1972), Richard Izzo (1973-1980), Louis G. Albano (1980-1997), Roy Commer (1997-1999), Uma Kutwal (2000-2001), Claude Fort (2001-2009) and our current president Behrouz Fathi, the local has been proud to serve the citizens of New York State and City; and
WHEREAS:
Local 375, the Civil Service Technical Guild, has celebrated its 75th Anniversary on May 6,2012; and
WHEREAS:
Local 375, the Civil Service Technical Guild, is one of the oldest locals in AFSCME.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That AFSCME and all the delegates to the 40th International Convention of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees go on record in congratulating, honoring and supporting the leadership and membership, past and present, of AFSCME Local 375 on their Diamond Anniversary.
