WHEREAS:
The economic downturn is having a critical impact on everyday Americans who are struggling to maintain or find jobs in an increasingly difficult environment; and
WHEREAS:
Those same Americans are the taxpayers that provide the revenue needed to operate essential government services; and
WHEREAS:
Our taxpayer dollars should be spent to maximize the creation of American jobs, whether in the public or private sectors, to restore the economic vitality of our communities, not for tax breaks for the millionaires and billionaires on Wall Street and in corporate board rooms across this nation.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
AFSCME and affiliated locals will work in coalition with the AFL-CIO and other unions, the Alliance for American Manufacturing and other organizations to elect and lobby federal, state and local government officials to spend tax revenues on products and services that are made or performed in America, that both create private and public sector jobs and help keep Americans employed; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
AFSCME and affiliated locals will encourage members to buy American products and urge businesses to provide more American-made goods as consumer options.
