Emphasis on Safety

Resolution No. 38 McCormick Place July 14 – 18, 2014 Chicago, IL

WHEREAS:

Throughout the union, job titles, duties and classifications are constantly and consistently changing; and

WHEREAS:

Improvements in safety equipment and changes in best practices and tactics are as well constantly and consistently changing; and

WHEREAS:

Safety is a primary concern in the union movement; and

WHEREAS:

The lack of methodical review of safety in the workplace and duties assigned to members may lead to catastrophic loss of limb or life.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

The International Union, councils, locals and other subsidiary bodies be urged to develop and implement best practices to insure the safety of members in the workplace, with the goal to review each job description to ensure the highest safety standards, practices and equipment at least once during each contract cycle.
