WHEREAS:
AFSCME members’ participation in the PEOPLE program is essential to the greater political action program that fights for the protection of workers’ rights, jobs, wages, benefits and workplace safety by working for the election of champions for working families to office; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME staff at the national and affiliate levels must make every effort to encourage AFSCME members to participate in the PEOPLE program to defend their contracts and their rights at the ballot box; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME affiliate and national union staff who give to the PEOPLE program can make the strongest case possible to ask AFSCME members to participate in that program.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That all affiliate and national union staff be encouraged to promote the importance of AFSCME PEOPLE in their interactions with AFSCME members; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That all affiliate and national union staff continue to strive toward the Power to Win goal of 10 percent of all AFSCME members making voluntary contributions at the MVP level or higher; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That all affiliate and national union staff – both active and retired - lead by example by participating in the PEOPLE program and voluntarily donating an annual contribution of 1 percent of their wages to AFSCME PEOPLE; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
That all AFSCME Affiliate directors discuss with their staffs the PEOPLE program, its importance to the union’s future and the 1 percent suggested voluntary contribution level.
