Resolution on Northern Ireland

International Executive Board, 1991

WHEREAS:

The present crisis in Northern Ireland has continued since August 1969. During vhich thousands of people have been killed.

WHEREAS:

The English government having claimed Ireland as their own, have created these problems and continued to profit from them by dividing the people.

WHEREAS:

The English government is incapable of bringing peace to Northern Ireland.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME District Council 57 urges the AFSCME International Executive Board to form a committee to study the political, economic, religious and labor situation in Northern Ireland. The purpose of the committee will be to better inform and educate AFSCME members on the plight of that colony. Further, the committee will attempt to generate support from AFSCME members and their allies in the labor movement to reach a fair and lasting peace in Northern Ireland.
