WHEREAS:
Politics and legislation at every level of government has a direct impact on interests and issues which affect AFSCME members and AFSCME retiree members; and
WHEREAS:
AFSCME retiree members have supported the PEOPLE program for years as working members and in retirement wish to continue to contribute to the PEOPLE program; and
WHEREAS:
PEOPLE checkoff has been the best and easiest method for members to contribute to the program; and
WHEREAS:
The average contribution from AFSCME retiree members has been consistent with the average contribution received from working AFSCME members;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That all affiliates and retiree chapters be urged to participate in the PEOPLE fundraising program and to pursue PEOPLE checkoff rights through the various pension plans available to our retiree members; and for those retiree chapters who already have checkoff rights in their pension plans, that they be encouraged to contribute to PEOPLE: and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
That all retired staff who participate in the AFSCME pension plan be urged to contribute to PEOPLE through checkoff which is available for plan participants.
