WHEREAS:
The Air Line Pilots Association AFL-CIO has negotiated fairly and in good faith with United Airlines but was forced to strike by management intransigence; and,
WHEREAS:
All economic issues had been settled through negotiations but the United management has determined to punish ALPA and is currently refusing to bargain; and,
WHEREAS:
In an effort to break the union United management is insisting on super-seniority for pilots who crossed picket lines in order to scab on the pilots; and,
WHEREAS:
In an attack on worker solidarity United management insists on blacklisting 500 pilots who had been trained for United's planned expansion and who refused to cross ALPA picket lines.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The AFSCME International Executive Board condemns United management for providing yet another example of an employer who is determined to destroy the ability of a union fairly to represent its members for collective bargaining; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:
The AFSCME International Executive Board calls on United management to return to the bargaining table and to recognize that union-busting proposals such as super-seniority for scabs and blacklists for men
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT:
AFSCME International advise all locals and councils of the position of United management and urge that in the interest of trade union solidarity and fair collective bargaining travel plans be made on airlines other than United until the strike is settled on a fair and equitable basis.
