The year 2024 was a historic one for cultural workers throughout our country, some of whom voted to join AFSCME for the first time or celebrated contract wins as members of AFSCME Cultural Workers United (CWU).

From Brooklyn, N.Y., Philadelphia and South Burlington, Vt., to Oakland, Calif., Los Angeles and Snohomish, Wash., cultural workers organized to join our union, ratified their first contract, and celebrated organizing wins that will give them a more powerful voice on the job to improve their workplaces and the services they bring to their communities.

They were librarians, museum workers and aquarium employees. They faced obstacles from their employers but showed that they never quit. They voted overwhelmingly to unionize or ratified collective bargaining agreements with big wage increases and more benefits.

It was a year of worker power for cultural workers. Watch the video below for highlights of the AFSCME CWU 2024 organizing wave.
