BALTIMORE – A federal court on Thursday ordered Elon Musk and his minions to lay off our Social Security records.
AFSCME President Lee Saunders praised the ruling, calling it a “major win” for working people and retirees nationwide.
The U.S. District Court in Maryland issued a temporary restraining order in a case filed by Democracy Forward on behalf of AFSCME, the Alliance for Retired Americans and the American Federation of Teachers.
We sought a court order blocking Musk and his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from breaching the Social Security Administration and accessing Americans’ sensitive personal information.
“The court saw that Elon Musk and his unqualified lackeys present a grave danger to Social Security and have illegally accessed the data of millions of Americans,” Saunders said in a statement Thursday after the court issued the order. “This decision will not only force them to delete any data they have currently saved, but it will also block them from further sharing, accessing or disclosing our Social Security information.”
“AFSCME is proud to have led the case against this power grab that threatens the economic well-being of millions of seniors and people with disabilities,” Saunders added. “And we will continue to fight to protect Social Security for current and future generations.”
Last week, working and retiree members of AFSCME and other allies rallied outside the Baltimore courtroom where the case was filed. They urged the court to stop Musk and DOGE from breaching Social Security and demanded that Musk and his billionaire buddies keep their hands off Americans’ hard-earned Social Security benefits.
