“Social distancing does not preclude solidarity,” AFSCME President Lee Saunders told members of the Democratic National Committee and union leaders and activists gathered online for the DNC’s Labor Council meeting today.
Council meetings and caucuses are a critical part of the business of the convention where leaders representing important Democratic constituencies gather to discuss their agendas. As the longtime backbone of the Democratic Party, the labor movement will have a powerful voice in the Biden-Harris agenda.
In his speech to the council, Saunders said Joe Biden and Kamala Harris “understand who the heroes of this pandemic are. They know who has answered the call. It’s essential workers of all kinds – public and private sector alike. It’s members of all our unions – stopping at nothing to serve our communities in a moment of crisis, even under the most difficult, dangerous conditions.”
