History
The Job Training and Development Center was born out of AFSCME’s Staff the Front Lines Initiative in 2023. The Center’s work is intended to sustain the initiative’s success into the future.
Mission
The Center’s mission is to guide our union on using workforce development tools and strategies to improve public service recruitment, retention, and career advancement opportunities that grow and strengthen AFSCME’s membership and build worker power.
Vision
The Center’s vision is to be AFSCME’s workforce development hub, enabling our union to seek, secure, and lead successful workforce development efforts at every level of the organization.
Approach
We fulfill our mission and vision through three primary approaches:
Providing technical assistance and guidance to AFSCME’s affiliated councils and locals.
Coordinating national, multi-affiliate solutions to workforce development challenges facing our members.
Collecting and sharing workforce development approaches within our union to spread knowledge that can seed AFSCME’s workforce development landscape.
