AFSCME Urges the Senate to Fund the Government

Today, the House passed a massive fiscal year 2020 appropriations package that includes significant benefits for working families. In response, AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement:

“This budget package includes many provisions that will benefit working people and strengthen public services. This deal includes the creation of student loan assistance for behavioral health workers, a raise for federal workers, relief for mineworkers’ pensions and an increase in education funding, especially for low-income students and students with disabilities. It will also repeal the 40% tax on high-cost worker and retiree benefits so Americans will be better able to maintain and increase their health care benefits. As Congress approaches another funding deadline, AFSCME urges the Senate to pass this robust funding bill, which keeps the federal government open, enhances financial stability for states and localities and provides relief for working families.”
