AFSCME Celebrates House Passage of the PRO Act

In a major win for working families, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO) Act, which enacts needed reforms strengthening private sector workers’ right to join and form strong unions. The success of this legislation is no doubt the result of a wave of worker activism that helped elect a pro-worker majority in the House of Representatives and continues to push working families’ issues to the forefront of the national discourse.

“This is a watershed moment for the labor movement and shows what working people can accomplish when we come together to demand a voice on the job and a seat at the table,” said AFSCME President Lee Saunders. “Workers across the country who have been taking collective action in their workplaces are one step closer to having greater freedom to organize and valuable protections against employer interference and retaliation. AFSCME calls on the Senate to reject corporate-backed interests pressuring them to kill this bill and stand with workers by defending their right to organize.”
