Congress Should Reject Trump’s Cruel Budget Cuts

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued the following statement about President Donald Trump’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2021:

“Yet again, the Trump administration is proposing to pay for the president’s tax giveaway to millionaires and billionaires by gutting vital programs that working families rely on to help keep a roof over their head and put food on the table. The president’s budget would cut job training programs, further privatize public schools and eliminate changes to Medicare that have saved seniors billions in out-of-pocket costs. It would also make it harder for the poor and disabled to receive assistance through Medicaid, SNAP and other lifeline programs.

“As the gap between the richest 1% and everyone else grows wider every day, we should improve public education, rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and strengthen labor rights so that workers have a voice on the job to advocate for better wages, benefits and working conditions that improve entire communities.

“AFSCME opposes this cruel budget and calls on Congress to stand up against this administration’s endless assault on working people.”
